The excitement is starting to grow as I am in the preparation for an other adventure with the Grizzlies in the BC Rain Forest near Prince Rupert. Because of float planes flight restrictions, I have been given a weight limit for my gears so it's starting to be quite a challenge to choose and pack all the photo material and required clothing, especially when you don't know if it is going to be always cold or warm, if it is going to rain for 8 days or not (more certain than not).
And so I have finally chosen the photo gear I will bring on the trip: Canon 1DX & 5D III, Sony A7R+Metabones EOS adapter, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L II, 200-400mm f/4L IS+, 16-35mm f/4L IS and 24-70mm f/4L IS. All this in a Thinktank Streetwalker Hard drive bag including Thinktank Hydrophobia for the 200-400mm and one for the 70-200mm. I am also bringing two Hyperdrive backup units, Gitzo GT3541LS, my modified Arca Swiss/RSS ballhead + Wimberley Sidekick, battery chargers, iPad, wired triggers with timers. All totalling 42 pounds. Woe.....I am allowed 60 pounds... !
So I am left with 18 pounds of clothing...not really a place to be fancy dressing... :) I may drop the A7R if need be but I would love to take landscapes with this one. We'll see.
It will be the second time I go with Ocean Light II Adventures gang. My first was in the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Santuary, a BC provincial Park to protect grizzly bears. It's a remote area where only a few guided can go. Our guide Tom (whom I call the bear whisperer) is probably the best for the Khuzeymateen and for the area I am going to which is the Great bear Rain Forest, a remote area south of Prince Rupert.
Count down is started T-19 days
